Looking out for our senior citizens, creating more services so they can remain in their homes longer. I want to cap their property taxes so their pensions can stretch further.Public safety is also a large issue, I want people to feel more comfortable walking our downtown at night. We need more police presence in the core of the city.
Political Leaning
My political views are not aligned with any specific political party. I believe in always planning for the future and building strong infrastructure so future generations will have it better than we currently do. I believe in balancing a budget so we don’t have hardships or short falls the future. I believe that the best decision is always the harder choice that will require the most work and responsibility. I believe that integrity cannot be bought and that the ethical choice is always best.Services and Infrastructure and Taxes

Creating education to help everyone to either get a trade or become an entrepreneur. Especial the homeless. So many people can barely get by. Many only a few paycheques away from becoming homeless themselves.I would like to know if Barrie residents would like to make our city more of a tourist destination? Use the income on infrastructure without raising taxes.
Mostly just speaking with our police, nurses and frontline workers to see if and how we can make the system better.

Barrie is going to see a lot of growth over the next 20 years -- our population will almost double -- and we have to plan for it. With my experience, my knowledge, my willingness to listen, my connections in the community and the respect I have earned from my fellow council members, I believe I am the best person to lead Barrie City Hall as we work to ensure that growth is not only a challenge for our city but also an opportunity in everything from services to affordable housing to recreation.Political Leaning
I have never been a member of a political party nor have I ever worked on any political campaigns except my own. I have endorsements from former Conservative, Liberal and NDP members at Queen's Park, showing I can work with people from across the political spectrum to do what is best for Barrie. I would consider myself a progressive on social issues while recognizing the need to hold the line on property taxes, which are definitely NOT a progressive form of taxation.Services and Infrastructure and Taxes
Maintain or rework services and infrastructure to maintain our taxes.Services and Infrastructure and Taxes Clarification:
Maintaining and even enhancing our level of services to Barrie residents is important. We are always looking for savings and efficiencies but that should not involve reducing the services our residents need: transit, road maintenance, our recreation centres and our parks, waste collection, emergency services .... the list goes on.Mayor, Councillor, Trustee Reminder

Condition of roads in Ward One. Some of the oldest roads in Barrie, which need to be replaced not just repaired.Housing Affordability. Increasing supply is not enough, the supply has to be affordable.Affordability means different things for different people at different stages of their life. We need to address affordability from different angles.
Noisy After Market Mufflers, petty crimes, and nuisance issues (Overcrowding near the college). Better enforcement from both police and City needed
Political Leaning
Party politics don't belong at the local level. I believe this whole heartedly. Decisions are about the city and representation is for the wards. However, I don't mind sharing with people I vote green party. I believe this is a fiscally and socially responsible party.

The foundation of my campaign is setting people up for success. Focus on Community is all encompassing. It includes infrastructure that allows us better modes of travel. Focus on community.Services and Infrastructure and Taxes Clarification:
Focus on community and getting back-to-basics. As I knock around the ward, I’m hearing the same thing over & over again. Residents remember a Ward 1 that was clean and safe. Where pride of ownership was visible on every street, Family, community and lifestyle are built and developed around the safety of your neighbourhood, the infrastrucutre and roads which we travel upon every day, and the homes that we live in.Clare Riepma

The top issue, especially in the older Wards such as 1 and 2, is our deteriorating roads and the pipes under them. We need significant expenditure to bring them to where they should be. Other issues include the need to improve property standards of unlicensed Boarding, Lodging and Rooming houses, speeding on residential streets, noisy mufflers, affordable and geared to income housing, and support for our business sector especially in the downtown.Political Leaning

I think it is important to reflect the needs, opinions and values of the community that I serve. The people of Ward 1 have a wide variety of views on many subjects and I am passionate about working with people to find the best solution for everyone. Rising home prices and the lack of availability of homes and apartments. 2. Speeding traffic especially in the school zones. 3. The health and mental safety of our homeless and the lack of options available to them. 4. Our downtown core. This includes our residents safety while there and also the lack of functions bringing people down there. Tent cities near our business and the increase of theft in those areas. As well the lack of police response and security in those areas.Political Leaning
My affiliation would be considered liberal but a stronger stance on immigration and more money put towards our citizens. I have volunteered on previous liberal campaigns in the past 12 years. But I am personally between liberal and Progressive Conservative. Both sides have many good things to offer. Being pushed to follow one party is not a way to fully encompass my residents views as all have different leanings and to properly represent all at the I believe we have to an open mind.Services and Infrastructure and Taxes

Our municipality is my priority roads, services and infrastructure. I believe tax should be maintained and not increased but other routes need to be looked at to increase municipal funding. The top issues I feel Barrie is facing are homelessness, affordability, business development, community engagement, crime prevention, and infrastructure/noise. Ward 2 requires a councillor capable of communicating at all levels from the bottom up and the top down. We lack resources, communication and safe spaces. Affordable and sustainable housing. Decent housing for Barrie residents that has rents 25 to 30% of their gross income. Housing that is built with sustainable materials that can be built cheaper and faster.Repair the roads and maintain basic services like snow removal and garbage pickup.
Control city spending and minimize tax increases.
the need for councillors that are responive to the needs of residents and answer inquiries or concerns in a timely manner.
Political Leaning
I have always voted Conservative. However my charitable work as made me aware of the needs of those who are less fortunate. It has taught me the need to advocate for those living on the margins of society. We have a responsibility to be compassionate towards our fellow men.I was President of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. We ran homes and shelters in the city of Toronto. We also sent boys and girls from Barrie and Simcoe county to summer camp at no cost to their parents.

Revitalizing our downtown by:
Creating a development process that fosters the creation of affordable housing as part of all developments.
Stop the inhumane drop off of people from provincial facilities who have no means or long term support.
Working together with the community and service providers to create solutions to issues one step at a time.
Political Leaning

Maintain or rework services and infrastructure to maintain our taxes.Services and Infrastructure and Taxes Clarification:
There is a great deal to do. We need to update our sewer and drainage systems. The Sophia Creek drainage project will affect about half of Ward 2We also must invest in our downtown which lacks a grocery store and large pharmacy to support the growing population. If we want to become a greener city there must be services to walk to in our core.

High taxes, which we need to address by finding and eliminating losses within each budget line to ensure we are getting value for our money.Local employment - I am committed to seeking businesses, particularly in tech and manufacturing, looking to expand operations to make Barrie the location of choice. I will also seek other opportunities to help local startups succeed.
Speeding and transportation safety - I will ensure concrete steps are taken to make all our roads safe for everyone.
Political Leaning
I support no party and vote entirely based on the positions of the local candidates, and the likelihood that I feel they will honestly represent the interests of all the constituents of their riding. I am fiscally conservative, but my political leaning varies by topic. I try not to "shoot from the hip". Instead, I do my best to inform myself on a topic, which often involves seeking data and reports from respected, expert sources, before forming an opinion.Services and Infrastructure and Taxes

The built community is intertwined with taxes, services, utilities, community and general representation of Barrie citizens and denizens. The city has an official plan which I support but I would like to see I broken down into something actionable instead of only guidelines, to ensure that the vision is achieved. Taxes can only be meaningfully controlled by improving value for money as I described. Cutting services once budgets are planned is not control, it is reactive and harms the community.Sharon Doran

Barrie is expected to double in population from 150k today to 300k by 2051. This explosive growth means that housing and infrastructure must be our top priority for years to come. I believe in service and giving back. I have been involved with my children's education since they started. First by joining the parent school council including as chair for six terms. It was also the reason to joined the Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) within the SCDSB. I chaired this committee for three years. Wanting to continue to participate, I then ran successfully for the position of trustee in 2018. There is still work to be done and is the reason I am running again.Political Leaning
I support the position that municipal politics are and should remain non-partisan. I have been a member of both provincial and federal parties in the past, but have not been so for quite some time.I believe everyone should be working towards the shared goal of providing the best education for our children within the available funding and resources to ensure that each student feels included and has the supports they need in safe, well-maintained and welcoming schools we can all be proud of.
Trustee Goal
The funding of the SCDSB is provided by the provincial government. As outlined in my campaign there are three primary funding issues that the SCDSB is advocating to the province for improvements:- The funding to build more schools and additions to existing schools.
- To increase Educational Development Charges (EDC) so that the Board will have the funds to purchase land
for future schools.
- To stop studying and approve a new funding formula to cover the actual & raising costs of busing.
